Youth Volunteer Opportunities

Are you a student in need of community service hours for a school club or other organization? A parent looking for volunteer opportunities your family can do together? Youth can help on build sites, in either of our ReStores and in Our Towns Habitat’s main office, with available opportunities varying by age.

Any volunteer age 15 or younger must be accompanied by an adult. All minor volunteers must have a liability waiver signed by their parent or guardian.

Construction opportunities:

Ages 12-13 (accompanied by an adult only): landscaping

Ages 14-15 (accompanied by an adult only): cleaning, painting, landscaping and installing soil-retention fencing

Ages 16-17: all construction tasks that don’t involve climbing ladders or operating power tools

ReStore opportunities:

Ages 14-15 (accompanied by an adult only): sorting and stocking books, linens and household items; sweeping and general cleaning; bagging and wrapping at checkout

Ages 16-17: working as a cashier, data entry, moving furniture, receiving donations, stocking, sorting and pricing

School/Youth Groups:

We’re committed to educating and involving young people in helping to address the need for affordable housing. If you are looking for a volunteer engagement opportunity for a group of young volunteers—whether it is for a school group, Scout troop or church youth group—please email Volunteer Program Manager Cathy Petriano or call 704-896-8957, ext. 108 to discuss opportunities.
