Our Towns Habitat homes in North Mecklenburg and Iredell County are sold to partnering families at no profit and with affordable mortgages. We build houses with high-energy efficiency standards that save homeowners on maintenance and utility expenses throughout Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, Troutman, Statesville and all of Iredell County.

Clients we serve work in schools, daycare, banks, restaurants and retail stores. They are employed by the towns in our service area, and work as bus drivers, postal employees and prison guards. Some are self-employed.

Our Towns Habitat clients must show need for adequate housing.

  • Current home needs repairs.
  • Overcrowded living conditions.
  • Rent and utilities exceed 30 percent of the household monthly income.

Prospective new homeowners must have the ability to pay for the Habitat home.

  • Family must have a stable, verifiable income.
  • Applicants must provide proof of legal right to work in the United States.
  • Perfect credit is not required. (FREE credit counseling is available for applicants.)
  • Monthly gross income falls between the Minimum and Maximum Monthly Income guidelines (see chart below).
  • Family must pay a 1 percent down payment.

Applicants demonstrate a willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity.

  • Live and/or work in North Mecklenburg or Iredell County (for the past year).
  • Judgments/collections must be paid off before closing on the Habitat home.
  • Attend 8 two-hour evening classes.
  • Partner on the construction of another Habitat family’s home.
  • Must be willing to earn 400 hours of sweat equity.
