Adopt-A-Home

Many churches and businesses in the towns of Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville have partnered with Our Towns Habitat through its "Adopt-A-Home" program.

Sponsoring churches or businesses have the opportunity to partially or fully fund the cost of building a local Habitat home.  The sponsor groups also offer their members and/or employees the chance to build the home along side the Habitat homeowner family.  Adopt-a-Home sponsorship is exciting, challenging and rewarding, and most importantly, it makes a real and lasting positive impact on the community.

As a Christian ministry, it is appropriate that the churches are a primary partner with Habitat in this important work of building affordable houses with people in need. Churches of all sizes and denominations have experienced profound blessings by putting their faith into action and building houses in partnership with their brothers and sisters in need. Former President Jimmy Carter has said that if every church and every synagogue built or repaired at least one home a year, the United States could totally transform the problems of housing and homelessness.

Our Towns Habitat for Humanity assigns a staff member to each build and supports the overall coordination of the build. Each church or business offers a Project Leader volunteer and a House Leader volunteer to manage/coordinate the build. Many volunteers are needed to build one Habitat home – it takes 2,500 volunteer hours to build one Habitat home. Volunteers have the opportunity to be Task Leaders or general volunteers. Our Towns Habitat staff provides an Adopt-A-Home project planning manual and training.
