About Habitat

Mission & Statistics

Our Mission is:

To build decent affordable housing

in partnership with families in need and our communuties;

to make adequate housing

a matter of conscience and action for everyone.

Our Towns Habitat for Humanity, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is a nonprofit, nondenominational Christian housing ministry.

We welcome all people to join us in eliminating substandard housing.

Habitat homeowners purchase their houses through no-profit, no-interest mortgages while contributing hundreds of hours of sweat-equity labor, working on their house and the houses of others. Mortgage payments are placed in a revolving Fund for Humanity to finance the construction of even more houses.

Volunteers and donors have made it possible for 489 people, including 277children, to live in Habitat homes in Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius, and Huntersville; 4389 people, including 2569 children to live in Habitat homes in Guatemala and 105 people, including 63 children to live in Habitat homes in Sri Lanka. 4983 people no longer live in sub-standard housing conditions due to Our Towns Habitat for Humanity’s efforts.

(Statistics updated July 1, 2008)

For every home built locally, Our Towns Habitat for Humanity funds the building of three homes in Guatemala (and in 2005 also built one home in Sri Lanka for every home built locally, for Tsunami relief.)

In June 2008, Our Towns Habitat for Humanity celebrated the dedication of the 143rd Habitat home to be built locally since 1988.
